The Porthallow cowl, named after a beautiful Cornish bay near Falmouth, has been designed as a “choose your own adventure”pattern. After a provisional cast on onto waste yarn, you will knit the colour work section, then pick from one of three lace options, then the colour work section repeats, then pick one of three texture sections, then colour work for a third and final time and finish up with one of three cable sections. The colour work is designed to be knitter friendly, with only two colours per row,and no floats of more than three stitches. It is knit on a circular needle as a tube. The live stitches from the waste yarn are then picked up and grafted onto the stitches at the end to create a smooth continuous loop, with or without a twist.
Our sample has been knitted up using 4 skeins of vintage 23 DK, a delicious blend of fibres from Polwarth, Romney and black Shetland sheep. The colours chosen are Natural Grey, Lazy Hazy, Island Dusk and Claret.
Our Porthallow Cowl yarn kits contain:
1 x 50gm skein in Natural Grey, 1 x 50gm skein in Claret, 1 x 50gm skein in Island Dusk and 1 x 50gm skein in Lazy Hazy
The pattern is available on Ravelry here
