Hello wool decanted flock!

Let’s start with the most exciting news.  I’d like to introduce you to a new pattern created by knitwear designer, Marina Skua, using our own wool decanted vintage 20 4 ply!  It’s the beautiful Dryopteris Top and the pattern has just been released today (August 20th) and we’ve got kits for sale in the Shop.

Dryopteris Top

About the pattern

Dryopteris is a lightweight sleeveless top, knitted from the bottom up, with panels of diagonal travelling stitches up the sides that continue round the armhole to the shoulder. The name ‘Dryopteris’ is that of a native British fern, which has leaves similar to the columns of travelling stitches up the sides of the garment.

I loved working with this yarn; it’s beautifully fine and knits up into a fabric that has the perfect balance of stitch definition and softness. I worked with the Natural colourway, which is a beautiful warm oatmeal colour with just the right amount of heather. Using it for a sleeveless top means it can be worn either on its own on cooler summer days, or layered up for cosy outfits in chilly weather

Such a versatile top

Harriet, one of the pattern test knitters, demonstrates the versatility of the Dryopteris top. Harriet posted a lovely photograph of herself modelling her finished top worn over a t-shirt.  Harriet commented “I’ve seen this being worn on its own, and the yarn is certainly soft enough for me to do that, but it’s been a bit chilly for the last few days. I do think it’s going to be perfect for layering this autumn”
