vintage 20 est arrivée. It’s here!!

At last we’re ready to launch our first batch of wool decanted yarn – vintage 20

First impressions ….

First impressions ….

Even though we’ve now got the yarn there’s still a bit of prep to do to get it ready to show you.  Twisting it into beautiful skeins, labelling and photographing it and so on.  At least now it seems very real!  So that we don’t have to wait any longer than necessary we’ve decided to launch our natural undyed yarn first – right now!  It’ll be on the website as you’re reading this.  Then we’ll launch our dyed range hopefully next week – but again you’ll be first to hear in an email.

So, in true wool decanted form, I’m very happy to introduce you to the Tasting Notes for our first yarn, vintage 20.  It’s a fabulous blend of fibres from Shetland and Bluefaced Leicester sheep.  Worsted spun at the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall.  And finished off by us, the wool decanted team, at the Island woolery on the Thames!

On the skein:

To touch this worsted spun yarn on the skein is to feel its smooth softness. Squeeze it and you feel springiness. You know it will produce a beautifully elastic fabric.  Technically, you could describe this yarn as excitingly squishy! Note, too, the warm, natural, oatmeal shade of the yarn. Achieved by adding just a touch of brown Shetland fibre to the blend.  It’s available in 4ply 225m/50g [spun to 2.9Nm spec] and DK 112m/50g [spun to 4/9Nm spec]. Now get it on your needles!

Decanted! And tasting smooth on the needles

Decanted! And tasting smooth on the needles

On the needles:

Worsted spinning gives this yarn its smoothness.  It glides effortlessly through your fingers and across your needles.  The 4ply weight is particularly delicate and fine.  Both weights knit up silky soft just as it promised in the skein. It’s a delight to hold and behold!

And, by the way, the yarn will be perfect for machine knitting and crocheting too.

A little treasure!

A little treasure!

On the finish:

Admiring your finished fabric you delight in its smoothness, softness, elasticity and drape. Not to mention the excellent stitch definition.  It feels luxurious against your skin and you just know you’ve produced a little treasure!

ENJOY!

There you go – we’re like new parents boasting about our baby!

We hope you’re encouraged to check out more information about the vintage 20 yarn on our website.  Even try it out for yourself.

As soon as possible the dyed yarn will go on the website.  I’ll send out another post letting you know first that it’s available too.

Till next week

Stay safe – and stay knitting!
